Over the weekend, my brother and I kicked off our celebrations for the two long days off work by ushering into the well lit, supremely ambitious ambience of Mamagoto. Less than 10 minutes into settling in, we find our feet thumping to the fabulous music that’s been spinning. From the latest songs, to the tunes that seemed vintage in this millennial age, we were warmly greeted by the Floor Manager, who needless to say, handled all our indecisiveness rather politely.
Being a vegetarian, it almost becomes a task to review restaurants that specialise in authentic Asian food. However, not one to disappoint, Azure Hospitality made sure we were in for a treat. And boy, was it scrumptious.
Hawkers Hall Menu as the name suggests, is the cuisine which has been picked up from the streets of Thailand, China, Indonesia and Malaysia all in a single menu. The traditional recipes of pan Asian cuisine have been given exquisitely given Mama’s signature twist.
The first thing we were presented with was the Aunty’s Platter, that had an assorted mix of their famous appetisers – Dim Sum, Satay, Spring Rolls, Banana crisps wih a mix of spicy and sweet dips. Elegant and refined, this was the order we placed twice because it hugged our taste buds in the most romantic way!
This was followed up with the Thai Puchka bites, which were Betle leaf with peanuts, onion and lime accompanied with a sweet ginger sauce and red chilli, served in a Puchka. This dish, walked straight out of tumblr y’all.
The Corn Salad which was our next dish came in a generous serving that could have basically fed a small country. The American Corn with fried Papaya in a Som-Tum inspired dressing (lime and chilli) was a huge hit at our table!
Super Hot Mama, was our final dish from the spread to try and boy was it worth the wait. Fried silken Tofu with a topping of red chilli and garlic paste, this dish was a treat for the spice lovers at my table.
All in all, desserts and cocktails included, this Hawkers Hall menu – Asian food for travellers and adventure mongers, was one rollercoaster ride. With each dish outwitting another, it sure was one extravagant gala that we were asked and honoured to witness.
